Thursday (the 4th), we drove the 5 hours to Flagstaff, AZ. Flagstaff is a ski town in the winter. It's also home to NAU (Northern Arizona University.) Northern Arizona is completely different than Southern Arizona (where we live). And I loved it! I didn't realize how much I had missed greenery. And trees! Go ahead, call me a tree hugger. :) Also, the temperature dropped 40 degrees as we drove north! I was in heaven.
Doesn't this look like a whole different state?? |
We checked in to our hotel, which looked like a legit ski lodge, and went to eat at "Diablo Burger" in downtown Flagstaff. Yum!
We had planned to watch a fireworks show with friends at 9pm in Flagstaff. But apparently, the show happened earlier in the day due to the rainy weather. So we called it a night!
Friday morning, we woke up early and drove the hour and a half to the Grand Canyon. We learned that since Billie is military, we can get in to any National Park for free! So we parked at the Visitor's Center and took two different shuttle routes around the south rim of the Canyon. We got out at certain lookout points and hiked from point to point. We got some great pics!
After we drove back to Flagstaff, we took naps, ran inside the hotel gym, and got ready for dinner. We had dinner at Karma sushi in downtown Flagstaff. Then we walked around and enjoyed the downtown scene, which was surprisingly really busy! But we caught some live music and toured around some little shops.
I like to call this one, "Real men eat seaweed salad." |
It's been way too long since I've had sushi! |
